White House Farmers Market

Sharon New September 17th, 2009

Just like she promised, Michelle Obama has caused a Farmers Market to happen within walking distance of the White House. It will be held on Vermont Street:  Shop for pasture-raised meats, artisan cheeses, milk and yogurt, fresh fruits and vegetables, breads and baked good, cut flowers, preserves and more. Our markets are open rain or shine! Double your Food Stamps, WIC and Senior Farmers Market Nutrition Coupons at this Market.

When the First Lady  first implemented a White House Garden that would be pesticide free, she received a letter  from the Mid America Croplife Association extolling the benefits of fertilizer, pesticides and the like and how safe and necessary they were.  It should be required reading for all Americans.  Here’s a snippet:  Much of the food considered not wholesome or tasty is the result of how it is stored or prepared rather than how it is grown.   Really?! So I wonder if big agri-business will send her a letter about the virtues of  shopping at a grocery store where she can buy a tomato shipped from California, sprayed with chemicals, has no taste and a generous helping of E-coli 0157.

So is the white house garden pesticide-free or do they use chemicals?
